Article: Matching Wedding Ring Sets, Made to Order in Berlin

Matching Wedding Ring Sets, Made to Order in Berlin

The nicest wedding rings I make are not identical. They are a pair that clearly belong together — the same hand behind them, the same quiet language — without being copies of each other. That is what I think a matching set should be: two rings in conversation, the way the two people wearing them are.

Matching, not identical

The instinct with wedding bands is often to make them the same. But two people are not the same, and rings worn every day suit different hands differently. A men's band usually wants a little more width and presence; a women's band is often finer. Made truly identical, one of them is usually a compromise. Made as a pair — related in metal, finish and detail, but each proportioned to its wearer — both rings are right, and they still obviously go together.

The Verna pair

A good example is Verna, a pair of rings I make in recycled gold. The men's band is 4 mm wide, the women's more delicate at 2 mm. I texture the surface by hand, pressing it directly into the metal, so both rings carry the same made-by-hand surface — that shared texture is what ties them together, more than matching them dimension for dimension ever could. One is not a shrunken version of the other. They are two rings that came from the same pair of hands, for two people who belong together.

How a matching set comes together

  • What ties them together — usually a shared finish or texture, sometimes a shared profile, so the connection reads at a glance.
  • What makes each one right — width and proportion suited to each hand.
  • The metal — recycled, nickel-free gold, in the karat and colour you choose, the same across both rings.

Made to order, in Berlin

Every pair is made to order, by hand, in my Berlin studio. That starts with a conversation — message me on Instagram, WhatsApp or by email — and includes getting both sizes exactly right. Fingers change slightly through the year, a little smaller in winter and fuller in summer, so I help you both choose sizes that stay comfortable in every season, not just on the day you try them on. If you are in Berlin, come and try designs on together before you decide. You can see the wedding rings to start from, and the studio details here. Two rings, from one pair of hands, made to belong together.

A few years ago, "recycled gold" was a nice extra to mention. Now it is closer to the baseline — the metal most thoughtful couples expect their rings to be made from. But the term gets used loosely...

"How much is a handmade wedding ring?" is a fair question, and a surprisingly hard one to get a straight answer to online. Prices depend on real things — the metal, the width, whether it is made to...
