Do Wedding Rings Have to Match?
When couples start looking for rings, the question comes up sooner or later: do they have to be the same? As if there's an unspoken rule everyone has always followed. No, they don't – and here's why. Rings need to be a pair. But a pair isn't necessarily a copy. What if they're consonant in shape and character, without repeating each other? I think that actually reflects relationships more honestly: we complete each other – while staying ourselves.
Consonant, not identical
Most couples want something different for each of them, but don't know it's allowed. And very often, that's exactly what we find together – consonant, not identical. Rings from the same collection or from different ones – we make them a pair through shared colour and texture.
How to find matching wedding bands
Look at rings from the same collection. In our Waterline collection, for example, you'll find more organic shapes – and you can look at the pieces independently of each other. All rings within a collection are united by one idea and built around similar forms. When I design a collection, I always start from the same lines – creating variations on a theme. That's how you'll find a pair that works together, even when the rings aren't identical.
Metal colour
Colour plays a big role too. When couples try on rings, it often turns out that different shades suit different people – some lean towards cooler yellow gold, others warmer. Don't box yourself into matching rings from the start – find the colour that suits each of you first. On request, we make rings in 14-karat gold in both warm and cool shades. Many couples land on a combination of white and yellow gold. There are many options – the main thing is finding what works for each of you individually, and for you as a pair.
From the studio
Essence is a wide ring, five millimetres, with pronounced facets across the entire surface. It suits those who want a more substantial wedding band with a contemporary design. Faceta is a softer, more delicate version. There's a lot of feminine energy in this ring. Both share the same strong facets – that's what connects them. Consonant, but not the same. Exactly that.
